Donald Bibbie, Jr Obituary

Donald Bibbie, Jr. was born to the union of Daniel and Dorothy Bibbie on July 28, 1927 in Milwaukee, WI. He was the eldest of three brothers. He was preceded in death by his father, mother,  James Lowell, and Howard Bibbie. The family moved to Chicago, IL where he attended McCosh Elementary School and Englewood High School, where he excelled in academics and sports.  Donald received many medals in track and basketball. He was surrounded by loving aunts and uncles who played a very important part in his life, along with his parents.

After high school he attended Wilson Jr. College, followed by enlisting in the United States Army from March 8, 1946 to September 7, 1947. He received an Honorable Discharge as Technician Fifth Grade and clerk typist.

Donald was hired by Commonwealth Edison as a meter reader, and advanced to become a data processor throughout his 45 years of service (only missing one day of work when he went to see about his son Lamont at Murray State College). He was active as a representative of the United Way, and had a great relationship with his co-workers.

Donald met and fell in love with Irene Lee from Grand Rapids, MI, a clerk at Commonwealth Edison, whom he married. Later they had three wonderful sons, Donald, Lamont, and Duane. He cherished his sons and was extremely proud of their achievements in education, sports and being outstanding citizens of Dixmoor, IL. Donald exposed his boys to all of the cultures of life i.e., museums, zoos, stage plays, and numerous trips on trains and airplanes.

Donald was baptized in the name of Jesus at Morgan Park Church (now known as the Apostolic Pentecostal Church of Morgan Park) under the leadership of the late Elder Robert Baggett.

Donald and his family moved to Dixmoor, IL in 1957. The family was blessed to have wonderful neighbors and friends who are still a part of  their lives. Later they moved to Harvey, IL meeting more dear friends and wonderful neighbors. Donald loved to visit pawn shops, swap shops and thrift stores near his job in downtown Chicago. He gathered everything possible; making these shops “rich”. He was known at work as a great dresser, as he had many clothes and shoes – this rubbed off on his sons.

Donald believed in taking care of his family, showing them the importance of saving. He paid for each of his sons to go to college; all three sons graduating from college, two of whom with Master’s degrees and one with his doctorate. He gave all of them cars. He made sure if something happened to him his family would be financially secure. Donald was a great father and great husband!

His son Donald preceded him in death.  Left to cherish his memory is his devoted wife and soulmate of 65 years, Irene; two sons Lamont (Sherron) of Olympia Fields, IL, and Duane (LaTonya), of Cave Creek, AZ; one grandson Orlando (Jessica); one great-granddaughter (Leilani) from San Antonio, TX; daughter-in-law Carolyn Bibbie of Louisville, KY; nieces, nephews, cousin, Lolita Stanford and a host of family and friends, too numerous to mention.
