Kathy Ann Hudson, 69, of Harvey, IL gained her wings, Friday, July 12, 2019 at 6:50 a.m. She was born in Laurel, MS, October 8, 1949 to Lola Mae Brown and Percy Atterberry. Kathy graduated from Rowan High School in Hattiesburg, MS in 1968. From there she attended Mississippi Valley State University where she received her BA Degree in 1972.
Kathy married George Hudson on April 9, 1978 in Mounds, IL. From their union came two beautiful daughters; Georithya Hudson and Geothya Mitchell, affectionately known as “The Girls”. They were her greatest accomplishment.
Kathy dedicated her life to serving others. She spent almost 40 years developing the minds of young people through education. She taught at Jesse Owens Academy for 35 years. Prior to that, she taught in the Catholic School System as well as Harvey School District 152. Because of her love of education and her “never quit” attitude, she decided to go back to school at age 55 to acquire her Masters in Education and her Type 75 (Principal License) from Olivet University. Subsequently, Kathy became the Asst. Principal of Outreach Exceptional Learning Academy and then Principal, the last two years.
At an early age she professed her faith in Jesus Christ and was baptized at True Light Baptist Church. When she migrated to Chicago, IL, she sang with the Maceo Woods recording choir where she was lead soprano. After marriage, George and Kathy were in pursuit of a new church home. He found Outreach COGIC. Here is where she chose to become a faithful and dedicated member until God called her home. Mother Hudson served faithfully in the choir, as a Sunday school teacher, Easter program coordinator, Finance officer, Special Aide member, and loving Mother of the church.
Along with her being the mother of two daughters and a mother of the church, she was a mother to many. Her spirit impacted the lives of so many... She had a knack for drawing the best out of people, whether it was using her no-nonsense attitude, feistiness, genuine love, or simply just giving to encourage the betterment of those around her. Her affection for people was pure, which was why she would always quote “Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.”
Kathy Ann Hudson was preceded in death by her parents: Lola Mae Brown and Percy Atterberry.
She was survived by her husband, George Hudson; her daughters: Georithya Hudson and Geothya Mitchell (Ivan); and stepson Georico Hudson; siblings (her twin) Marcia Ann McCarty (John), John Gwin Brown (Vienna), Mitchell Coleman Brown (Gnell), Eileen Byrd (Thomas), Delilah Green; her grandchildren: Imani Mitchell, Gavin Mitchell, Ithan Mitchell and Gamir Mitchell; her godchildren: Christina Brown, Jade Gandy and Jada Gandy; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and her Outreach Church Family.
