Madie Jaynes Obituary

Madie Louise Jaynes was born January 12, 1922 in Magee, MS, to the late Mr. Robert and Lugenia Berry Magee of Magee, MS; to this union fourteen children were born.  Madie departed this life on Friday, May 17, 2019.

Madie, showed no aptitude for working in the fields and as the story goes it was her father that dedicated that she should be educated.  She attended public school, furthering her education by graduating from Southern Christian Institute.

Madie credits her uncle Albert Berry for getting her involved in church at an early age. He was a Christian and encouraged her to read the Bible and to attend church regularly.  She was baptized in 1934 at St. Peter’s Missionary Baptist Church in Magee, MS.

On December 28, 1945 she was united in holy matrimony to Charles Jaynes.  To this union two sons were born: Curtis and Gregory (deceased June 18, 2004).  Madie and her family moved to Chicago in 1945.  In 1961 Madie and her family bought a home and settled in Markham, IL where they joined the Second Baptist Church in Harvey, IL. In 1982 she became a charter member of Christ First Baptist under the pastorate of the Rev. Dr. Napoleon Davis.  She was a student of the Bible and was deeply dedicated to her church and its ministries. She served as Sunday School Teacher, Pastor’s Aide, Usher Board and sung in the Senior Choir.

She faithfully called on the sick and shut-in and volunteered her services in the Church Food Pantry.  Mother Jaynes served as a faithful servant for over 75 years.

Madie retired in 1985 from Zenith Electronics.  Upon retirement she joined The Markham Senior Citizen Club. She often talked about the many fun trips she took with the club which included restaurants, plays and museums.  She also volunteered as an office clerk which she throughly enjoyed.  Cooking, listening to her gospel stations, playing with her great-great grands and keeping up with her family kept her busy.

She leaves to cherish her memories a son Curtis Jaynes Sr. (Beverly) of Country Club Hills, IL; one sister Mary Lois Jaynes of Toledo, OH and one brother Sims McGhee of Terry, MS; 2 sisters-in-law, Leola Magee and Erma Lee Magee;  also 8 grandchildren: Curtis Jaynes, Jr. (Veronica), Lesley Jaynes-Griffin (Kevin), Cherie Leonard, Wanda Melendez (Keith), Dawn Anderson (Charles), Lugenia Rosenfeld (Martin), Phillip Sweeney and Carl Sweeney (Carlyn).  In addition, she leaves 19 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great grandchildren; and one beloved goddaughter, Wilie Mae and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
